Background to Waste Management in Entebbe Muncipality

Solid waste management (SWM) is by law, the responsibility of the 2 municipal Divisions with the Centre Council playing a supervisory and policy formulation role,

Projected population of Entebbe municipality for the 2010 is 100,000 people during the day time. (2002, UBOS). The Municipality has an estimated 16,000 households, 700 shops, 4 markets and 2 industries from which wastes are generated.

 Solid waste is communally managed through 12 public collection points in addition to several private points in the hospitals, hotels, the Airport and a few other institutions.
