The waste management project now called “Defining Waste Management in Entebbe” (DWME) is to run in 3 phases namely:

       i.        Developing a Waste Management Plan for Entebbe Municipality

ii.        Improving the Waste management political and technical perception at the                      Entebbe   Municipal Council

iii.        Developing a landfill at the Nkumba dumping site.

So far the cooperation has seen the exchange of ideas between Kalmar and Entebbe and presently Entebbe is working directly with Kalmarsundsregionens Renhållare (KSRR), an authority managing waste in 4 municipalities in the Kalmar Region of Sweden to see how best the waste management in Entebbe can also be improved.

In the spring of 2007 Entebbe received a specialized garbage truck, a skip and several waste bins so as to kick start the project of organizing Entebbe waste.

Officials from KSRR inspect the Scania truck donated to Entebbe on its arrival at Kampala.

Several exchange/study visits have also been organized between Entebbe and Kalmar. Two waste collection centres (Kabubu and Central Market) have also been enclosed to reduce on waste spillage.  Demonstartions on how sort and compost at home were also conducted in Kiwafu Ward.
