Waste Management
Entebbe Municipality has an estimated day time population of 100,000 people and 16,000 households, 700 shops, 4 markets and 2 industries from which wastes are generated.
Waste management is the responsibility of the 2 municipal divisions. Entebbe Municipal Council plays a supervisory and policy formulation role.
Waste generation in Entebbe municipality
Estimated waste generation per day is 60 tons and of which an estimated 40tons (66%) are transported to the dumping site in Nkumba. The rest is put in gardens or composted on sites or compounds. At the Nkumba dumping site crude dumping is practiced and no treatment is done to the waste.

Goal of the waste management in Entebbe:
To improve the livelihood of people living in Entebbe Municipality through integrated solid waste management.
Objectives:
1. To create public awareness and response to integrated solid waste management.
2. To strengthen regular efficient and effective collection of waste at all collection centers.
3. To strengthen waste recycling and treatment using appropriate technologies
4. To ensure proper disposal and treatment of all types of wastes generated in the Municipality.
5. To generate appropriate bye laws on waste management and ensure their enforcement.
6. To develop policies that will ensure effective waste management in the Municipality.
Entebbe Municipal Council has 2 sub-programs of the Waste Management Program these include the ‘Defining Waste Management’ Project’ and the ‘Cleaner Development Mechanism’ (CDM) municipal waste composting project.
